Abstract:
"Recent developments in copyright law and practice, all inspired or triggered by the new digital networked environment, have the potential of negatively affecting the freedom of scientific communication. In this paper a number of these developments will be briefly examined. The author concludes that it is critically important for the global scientific community to become actively involved in the international, European, and national legislative process to protect scientific freedoms against further erosion."

Im Zuge der wachsenden ökonomischen Bedeutung von Wissen sowie technologischer Veränderungen durch das Internet ist die Regulierung von Eigentums- und Nutzungsrechten an nicht stofflichen Gütern vermehrt zum Gegenstand transnationaler Auseinandersetzungen geworden. Drawing on theories of the state, networks, and globalization, this article examines issues of transnational copyright governance. Also under examination are the role of the state in its relations with transnational trade and legal regimes, Hollywood's struggle in fighting piracy, and the impact of digital technology on the market.
